Big Island Hawaii

A Safe Place For Animal Guyz FLASH TOWN

An acre of unaltered jungle full of ferns and ohia trees atop old lava fields Imagine a nice state park.

Hammocks and gazebos, ponds and animals

Running on water catchment and solar power

Island sanctuary for all kine animal guyz

What is Flash Town?

Flashtown started as figuring out how to include my friends in the blessings I’ve been given.

It’s frustrating to sit on a tropical island paradise knowing that my friends are stuck on the mainland with all my least favorite pollutions.: air , water, and (eek) noise pollution.

But as the world continues to fall into increasing madness, the idea of an inner island sanctuary has become more of a need than a wish.

And the need for sanctuary that was first identified as being needed for animals is now needed for people - and my aspirations are ever-expanding.

Tents

The rainforest presents unique challenges for creative accommodations while maintaining a pledge to keep the jungle mostly untouched.

Considerations must include air flow and breathability while at the same time keeping out unwanted guests like mosquitoes.

Lightweight fabrics with many windows built atop raised platforms with secondary awnings let in the sweet fragrance of Hawaiian flowers and the sound of coqui frogs.

Hawaiian Land

Hawaii is unmatched for its diversity and pure wonderment. All 4 elements spring to life in a perfect symphony of raw nature

Volcanoes that touch both the clouds and the sea, giving birth to wind and waterfalls that pour out into the bays, where the rich mineral deposits attract diverse marine life

A land of finches and dragonflies- but also dolphins and humuhumunukunukuapuaa. The Big Island is home to 11 of the world’s 13 climate zones.

there are as many different climate zones on the island of Hawaii as exist along the entire coast stretching from Alaska to Costa Rica.

Animals

The simple mission statement of this project is to never have to tell another animal in the classified ads that you can’t help it because you don’t have enough room.

The exact particulars of how to run and operate a successful animal shelter

And the organic and decisions have to be made to fit the scenarios as it develops

So it would be folly to pretend we have that part figured out.

But the intent is there and as always where there is the will there is a way.

Our Location

There is nowhere on the island you cant drive to in 2 hours. there are 2 airports, one in Kona and one in Hilo. South Point is the southernmost point in the “country” and there is a Croc retail store in Waikoloa. Kilauea is an active volcano and Mauna Loa is the world’s largest volcano by volume. The north side of the island has eucalyptus forests where sugar cane fields once stood.

Acutal Property

Our weather varies from sun to rain almost daily. On average, it rains on over half of the days of the year. This doesn’t mean it rains all day on those days, perhaps just passing showers. Our temperature is usually in the 70’s to 80’s, extreme hot temperatures may be in the 90’s, and in the midst of winter on a cold night the temperature may drop to the lower 50’s (a few times into the upper 40’s).

The weather is usually perfect T-Shirt temperature. The jungle is varied, there is lots of the small fern ‘staghorn’, Ohia trees and Waiwi ( pronounced like the letters YV, or Why-Vee ) trees for the most part.

The ground also varies, usually from 4 inches to 2 feet of topsoil before you hit lava. The top layers of lava are usually easily broken, but when you get down to ‘blue rock’ it gets very hard

I know of a couple caves on road 17, the entrances are blocked off, there are probably more undiscovered caves. Here on the island of Hawaii Lava hazards are a real part of the journey.

Hawaii island is comprised of active volcanoes and as that is a real fact there are important issues to consider when looking at purchasing real estate in areas that are at higher risk of the flow of lava

The United States Geological Survey has broken up the island in 9 zones commonly known as lava hazard zones, and labeled them 1-9. Zone 1 is considered the highest risk zone based upon and according to the degree of the risk of hazard, historical flows, and the geographical lay of the land

Zone 2 is also a high-risk zone based upon the same criteria. As the hazard zone number increases in number the degree of risk decreases. In such lava zone 9 is considered a zone of least risk. Flashtown is located in Zone 3
